ARTISTS IN ACTION

Artists in Action is one of the Art Museum’s rotating events on free Thursdays. It is presented the second Thursday of the month and features a demonstration by an artist. Sponsored by the Artists Council, these popular events last about an hour and give an in-depth look at how artists work in a wide range of media. It happens at 6 p.m. in Zone 101/Hoover Gallery.

2008-2009 Calendar of "Artists in Action" Appearances

All demonstrations begin at 6:00 PM on Thursdays in the museum’s Zone 101 in the Hoover Gallery.

  • October 9 - Gene Williams from Mitre and Bevel presents "Framing Finesse" to best frame and present art in your home
  • November 13 - Susan Evans Smith shows the techniques used to hand-tint black and white gelatin photographic prints
  • December 11 - Diane McClary shows how multiple plein-air sketches are assimilated into a studio painting
  • January 8 - Tina Wiskirchen brings portrait photography to coincide with the museum's Robert Mapplethorpe exhibition
  • February 12 - Linda Kemp demonstrates negative-space painting
  • March 12 - Pamela Hudson illustrates two kinds of printmaking
  • April 9 - Cash Baxter advances his proof that "Acrylics Are the New Oils"
  • May 14 - Deb Mumm says "Find Your Art," and shows the elements of Assemblage

The Museum's permanent collection of more than 55,000 objects features art of the Americas and 20th-century California art. The collection includes modernist and contemporary painting and sculpture, Western American art, Native American and Mesoamerican art and artifacts, contemporary studio glass art, photography, modern architecture and design, and graphics/works on paper.
